Online Event - 7th June 2023 - Workshop on BIO-UPTAKE solutions
Towards circular bioeconomy: BIO-UPTAKE smart bioplastic composites, REDOL circular products from SUW & BIOECONOMYVENTURES platform for bioeconomy start-ups
The European Green Deal aims to make Europe climate neutral by 2050 through circular production models. The workshop focusses on the BIO-UPTAKE solution to produce biobased end-products, REDOL ecosystem to foster zero residues strategies and BIOECONOMY VENTURES to support bioeconomy initiatives.
11:00 BIO-UPTAKE - BIOcomposites in smart plastic transformation processes to pave the way for the large-scale UPTAKE of sustainable bio-based products
Elke Demeyer, Research Scientist at Centexbel
The general objective of Bio-Uptake project is to ensure a sustainable uptake of bioplastic composites through boosting a twin green and digital transformation in the European manufacturing industry. Bio-Uptake solution will focus scientific and technology efforts on developing flexible manufacturing processes to produce biobased end-products for the construction, medical and packaging sectors based on the combination of intermediate formats made of natural and/or biobased synthetic fibers reinforced with biopolymers, which are easily adaptable to new market demands.
11:15 Regional HUB for circularity in Solid and Urban Waste (SUW)
Diego Redondo, PhD Project Manager at CIRCE
500 kg of municipal waste per capita are generated per year in the EU, while only 45% is recycled. REDOL will transform Zaragoza city into a hub for circularity that implement zero residues strategies while fostering industrial-urban symbiosis (I-US) approaches among local and regional actors.
REDOL will redesign 5 value chains for SUW (packaging, plastics, CDW, textiles, WEEE) ending-up in the production of 12 circular products.
11:30 Raising disruptive bioeconomy ventures, startups and spinoffs to the top
Pierre Kerhascoet, Project Manager at Irish Bioeconomy Foundation
The platform for bioeconomy-based start-ups and spinoffs, driving their access to finance, becoming the future lighthouse in the European bioeconomy ecosystem.
Start-ups and spin-off companies are usually associated with highly innovative ideas and potential. However, that is not mirrored by their performances on the market. About 90% of start-ups and spin-off companies, in fact, fail within three years from their creation, 10% of which within the first year. BioeconomyVentures aims at facilitating and fostering the success of these initiatives by eliminating some of the identified obstacles.
11:45 Q&A
11:55 Final remarks
